I painted this at home - from a photograph. It took about five hours; oils on a wooden board. The picture was taken on Striding Edge ... one of the two ridges leading up to the east face of Helvelin .... the second highest mountain in the Lake District. It looks out to Fairfield in the middle, St Sunday crag on the left and over the hanging valley of Nethermost down below. Just a few metres away to the left of this picture is a little plaque commemorating the death of an elderly gentleman who fell from this ridge early in the 1900's. He had been walking with his dog, when he slipped .... He was found dead a couple of days later down by red tarn far below, and his dog was still sitting there guarding his body! This is the memorial plaque .........
