This is Tom, drawn from a photograph taken across the garden fence while he, his sister and father were having some fun in the garden. It took me about an hour and a half. I have included the original photograph here on the right.   I drew this with a graphite pencil, (grade B), on an A4 size sketch pad. Having very lightly planned it out on the paper, I developed the drawing - as you can see - using the 'Cross-hatch' method of shading. I am becoming more and more comfortable with this technique the more I use it. I am aware that many people are attracted to and are eager to use this method of shading, and are not finding it easy to handle. So, I am going to try and demonstrate what is going through my mind, as I use it, in "Demonstrations". |
